History

Beginning: 1991 02 16 Jaunimo linija (The Youth Line)  starts its activities. Psychologist dr. Kristina Ona Polukordienė gathered the first group of volunteers in Vilnius and trained them to provide emotional support over the phone. The youth line started operating in Kaunas on November 12, 1993, and in Klaipėda on July 1, 1997.

Letters: 12.10.2002 Jaunimo linija started providing emotional support via e-mail letters.

One number: 2003 In December, instead of three numbers in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda, a single number 8 800 28888 was launched in Lithuania.

Don't be afraid to speak: 2009 Jaunimo linija  together with Andrius Mamontovas, has launched a suicide prevention initiative Don't Be Afraid to Speak. Since then, hundreds of thousands of postcards with the main signs of suicide risk have been distributed and dozens of educational meetings have been held in various parts of Lithuania.

Round the clock: In 2010 Jaunimo linija has extended its working hours and started providing emotional support 24/7.

Unified organization: In 2013 support fund Jaunimo linija has become the only organization responsible for the activities of the NGO. Until then, the activities were organized by the Youth Psychological Support Center (Vilnius), the Kaunas Youth Line Association and the Spiritual Support Center for Youth (Klaipėda).

Online chats: In 2016 Jaunimo linija started providing emotional support by online chats.

New branch: On 13 September 2018, Jaunimo linija branch was established in Skuodas.

Social Business: In 2019, Jaunimo linija started offering training on emotional health to companies

Quarantine: Jaunimo linija operated non-stop during the quarantines announced for Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021 to provide emotional support when it was most needed.

30 years: In 2021, the Youth Line celebrated its 30th anniversary. It is estimated that over the past 30 years, more than 3,000 people have been and are part of the organization. Over 1 million 400 thousand calls were answered by the volunteers during this period.

Online Chat: From 2021, emotional support via online chat will be provided every day from 6pm to 10pm.
